traceur11 asked:

Say you do pushups, chinups, and other bodyweight workouts every day. My question is, would doing weight training say once a week make a difference in your strength? Is it worth your time? I know high rep exercises like pushups train different muscle fibers than do the low rep workouts with weight training, so is that counter-intuitive? Can you effectively develop both high rep bodyweight strength as well as low rep training with weights?

Laura T asked:

I’m 20, 5′2″, 115lbs, 22% body fat. I’m planning on doing 40mins elliptical training and 20mins of jump-roping 5 times a week. My goal is to reach 17% body fat. I was planning on doing an hour of weight training 4 days a week (just for toning up) but I kinda got discouraged ‘coz there aren’t many home workouts and I really don’t have the budget for more equipment. (I have 2lbs dumbells)

I was thinking of skipping weight training altogether and replacing it with an hour of Pilates. What “look” will that achieve? Will it be different than when I’m weight training? And will that affect my metabolism?

Note: I don’t really wanna build muscles. Just wanna firm up.

P.S. Or can you guys refer me to a good (cheap) home workout website? I’ve basically gone to most of them. Thanks!

FAUSTUS

a link to the past asked:

My goals are size and strength.

I do both weight training and cardio – alternating 3 days weight training, 3 days cardio, and 1 day rest.

My weight training workout alternates between 3 sets each of two muscle groups, and then doing the same again but through different exercises, for a total of 12 sets per day, not including abs which are included in every weight training session. For example, one day might be 3 groups of BENCH – (quick rest) – CURLS, followed by 3 groups of CHINUPS – (quick rest) – FLYS.

Sets normally consist of about 12, 10, and 8 reps to fatigue.

Also, is muscle soreness a good indicator of resting that group that day?

CAROLENA
